Our History
Club Lac Pythonga—
Historical Preservation Project
It has been thirty-one years since the Club’s history was last updated, and in that time we have witnessed a number of significant milestones. We are now in the process of documenting these milestones and expect to release an updated Club history in 2027.
The three previously published Club histories were all written and assembled by one or two individual members. For this update, we have taken a “crowd-sourcing” approach, inviting dozens of members to contribute written content in areas they know, and are planning to augment this content with photographic illustrations. Additionally, there will be both a physical (book) and a digital edition (housed here on the updated Pythonga website), of this history update.
The updated history will include the following:
The written history of the last thirty-one years, with short chapters documenting significant events and milestones.
Other slices of our history, which date back further than thirty-one years but explore elements of our history through different perspectives than those used in previous histories. These include reflections on the Indigenous people who lived here before us, members’ reflections on our last three managers (Edward, Sylvie, Marc), cabin histories for all cabins, and anecdotes about the guides collected from members.
(Digital version only) - A compendium of previous significant historical documents, including the three previously published histories, a fourth history written in 1949/1950 (never published), and other significant historical documents.
A digital archive of the photographic history of the Club, created to both preserve our photographic records and augment the written history update.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all members who have contributed to this project so far. We look forward to bringing you the updated history in 2027!
